Letters from France (and later, Germany)

 

In the Spring of 1989 I moved from San Francisco to Châlons-sur-Marne (now called Châlons-en-Champagne) to work as the juggling instructor at the National Circus School of France (Cenre National des Arts du Cirque). Speaking very little French at the time, this was quite an adventure.

 

After a couple of years in France I moved back to spend a year in Santa Barbara, California. Then it was on to Germany as the Jonglierlehrer at die Etage, a performing-arts school in Berlin. Again, I arrived not speaking the language.

 

These letters follow the low adventures of someone trying to figure out how to buy toothpaste (and deal with other aspects of daily life), when he doesn't understand much of anything that's going on.

Moved to Santa Barbara, California, in the summer of 1990. Moved back to Europe (Berlin, Germany) in the fall of 1991.
